Commanding Officer

Commander Drew Lichtenstein, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.

At sea, he served aboard USS Georgia (SSGN 729) (Blue) from 2007 to 2010 as Electrical Officer, Strike Officer/Assistant Weapons Officer, and Ship’s Diving Officer, making deployments to the 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Responsibility. During his tour on USS Georgia, the ship earned the Battle Efficiency “E”. From 2013-1026 he served as Weapons Officer on USS Columbus (SSN 762), completing WESTPAC and SOUTHCOM deployments and earning the Weapons Department White “W” as the best of 11 weapons departments in Submarine Squadron 7. He was the Operations Officer of PCU Hyman G. Rickover (SSN 795) from 2018 to 2019.

Ashore, he served as a Submarine Watch Officer at Submarine Group 7/CTF-74/CTF-54, Protocol Officer to Commander Naval Forces Japan, Military Assistant to Commander Submarines NATO, Executive Officer of Trident Training Facility, Bangor, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Forces, Nuclear Weapons, and Force Protection at Submarine Group 9.

Commander Lichtenstein’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other unit and campaign citations.
