Captain Corey Poorman
Chief of Staff

Captain Poorman, a native of Severna Park, MD, graduated with distinction as a Trident Scholar from the United States Naval Academy in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a master’s degree in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.
Captain Poorman’s operational assignments include command of Submarine Squadron 7 and command of USS Pasadena (SSN 752). In command of Pasadena, he led the crew on a Western Pacific deployment, a Change of Homeport to Norfolk, VA, and maritime homeland defense operations. He has also served aboard USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) as Executive Officer, USS Jefferson City (SSN 759) as Engineer Officer and Navigation/Operations Officer, and USS Parche (SSN 683) as a division officer.
His staff assignments include Director, Joint Integrated Fires and Effects Center (JIFEC) for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Division Chief for both Joint Operations Division Indo-Pacific and Global Force Management Joint Staff for the Deputy Director Regional Operations (J35); Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor (PCOI) for Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans, Engagements, and Exercises(N5/N7) to Commander, Submarine Group SEVEN; Submarine Department Head Sea Detailer for Navy Personnel Command, PERS-42; and, Flag Aide to Director, Submarine Warfare Division, OPNAV N77.
He currently serves as Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Captain Poorman is authorized to wear the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards). Throughout his career, he was a member of exceptional teams that earned various unit, campaign and Battle Efficiency awards.
