CMDCM (SS) Mark Shelly

Command Master Chief

Master Chief Mark E. Shelly, a native of Altus, Oklahoma, enlisted in the United States Navy through the delayed entry program in August 2003 and reported to basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, in July 2004. Following completion of basic training, he completed Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Submarine Navigation Electronics “A” School.

In September 2005, Master Chief Shelly reported to the USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor in Washington. While attached to Jimmy Carter, he completed three missions vital to National Security and earned the Deep Submergence Insignia. In October 2010, Master Chief Shelly transferred to his first shore tour, Trident Training Facility Bangor, where he was selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2012.

After completing Submarine Navigation Electronics “C” school, Master Chief Shelly returned to sea duty in November 2014 aboard the USS North Carolina (SSN 777). He completed one Western Pacific Deployment serving as Navigation Division LCPO. In October of 2017, he transferred to USS Charlotte (SSN 766), where he completed one Western Pacific Deployment and promoted to Senior Chief while serving as the Assistant Navigator and Navigation/Operations Department Enlisted Advisor. Additionally, he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in August 2019 and qualified Chief of the Boat. In September 2020, he reported to COMSUBRON 7 where he served as the Assistant Navigator and was promoted to Master Chief in 2021. In September 2022, he reported to USS Hawaii (SSN 776) and was selected as a Command Master Chief. In June 2025, he reported Submarine Readiness Squadron Three Three where currently serves.

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
