CMDCM (SS) Norman W. Clarke
Command Master Chief
Command Master Chief Norman W. Clarke was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and enlisted in the Navy in October 1995. He completed Recruit Training in Great Lakes and attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School, attending Auxiliaryman "C" School in Groton, Connecticut.
Master Chief Clarke's sea duty assignments include USS PITTSBURGH (SSN 720), USS ALBUQUERQUE (SSN 706), USS SAN JUAN (SSN 751) and USS NEW MEXICO (SSN 779). His shore duty assignments included Naval Submarine School and Naval Submarine Support Facility New London, Groton, Connecticut.
Master Chief Clarke first qualified in submarines in 1996 onboard the USS PITTSBURGH. During this tour, he advanced to Petty Officer Second Class and completed three deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and Central Command area of responsibility.
Following his tour on USS PITTSBURGH, he reported to Naval Submarine School where he earned the Master Training Specialist certification and subsequently advanced to Petty Officer First Class.
His follow-on assignment was onboard USS ALBUQUERQUE, serving as the Auxiliary Division Leading Petty Officer and Auxiliary Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. During this tour, he completed two deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer.
Upon completion of his tour on ALBUQUERQUE, he was assigned to Naval Submarine Support Facility, NLON as a Superintendent from 2008 to 2011.
His next sea duty was onboard USS SAN JUAN from January 2011 to June 2014 as the Maintenance and Material Management (3M) Coordinator, where he completed one deployment to the Mediterranean and Central Command area of responsibility, and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Master Chief Clarke returned to Naval Submarine Support Facility to serve as the Machinery Shop Leading Chief Petty Officer from 2014 to 2015.
Returning to sea, Master Chief reported to USS NEW MEXICO as the Chief of the Boat from September 2015 to August 2018 and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in August 2016. Upon completion of this tour, he was assigned to Regional Support Group/Naval Submarine Support Facility New London, from August 2018 to February 2021.
In February 2021, Master Chief Clarke transferred to USS Frank Cable AS-40, and is currently serving as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Clarke's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
