Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief Tandberg, a native of Renton, Washington, enlisted in the Navy in March 1989. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Basic Enlisted Submarine School, Groton Connecticut, competing fire technician guns “A” school and “C” school. Tandberg is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief Course.

Tandberg’s early assignments include a tour on USS Alabama (SSBN 731) (Blue), USS Michigan (SSBN 727) (Blue) as a fire controlman, USS Bremerton (SSN 698) as the command network administrator, where he completed numerous deployments and strategic deterrent patrols.

His shore command tours include Trident Facility Bangor, Washington, as an instructor and Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet supporting fleet network and network security.

Tandberg’s chief of the boat tour was aboard USS Bremerton and his command master chief tour was at Naval Submarine Support Center, Pearl Harbor. He also served as the assistant officer in charge of forward operating locations in Uganda and Kenya in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa.

His personal decorations inlcude the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
