CDR Matthew Lewis

Commanding Officer, USS Vermont (SSN 792)

Commander Matthew Lewis, a native of East Amherst, NY, is a 2007 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. He holds a Master of Science in Oceanographic Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He also holds a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from the United States Naval War College.

His sea tours include division officer assignments aboard USS Toledo (SSN 769), Engineer Officer aboard USS North Dakota (SSN 784) and USS Virginia (SSN 774), and Executive Officer aboard USS Newport News (SSN 750).

His shore tours included serving on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron Four as the Squadron Engineer.
