CDR Isaac Pelt

Commanding Officer, USS Minnesota (SSN 783)

CDR Pelt, a native of Brooklyn, New York, graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He subsequently earned his Masters in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and a Masters of Advanced Studies in International Affairs from the University of California at San Diego.

CDR Pelt qualified submarines and served as a division officer on USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758). During this time, the ship completed two Western Pacific deployments and was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

CDR Pelt later served as the Weapons Officer on USS GREENEVILLE (SSN 772). GREENEVILLE completed two Western Pacific deployments and commenced a drydock maintenance period in this timeframe. The ship was awarded multiple unit commendations, two Battle “E”s, and a Weapons “W” during his tour.

He recently served as Executive Officer on USS SCRANTON (SSN 756), where the ship completed its first Western Pacific Deployment. SCRANTON received the Pacific Fleet’s Retention Excellence Award. Ashore, Pelt served as the Northeast Field Admissions Counselor for U.S. Naval Academy Admissions and the Operations Officer for COMSUBPAC Representative West Coast. After completing the Politico-Military Master’s program at the University of California at San Diego, CDR Pelt was assigned to the Naval Strategy Panel within the DCNO for Warfighting Development (OPNAV N7), responsible for supporting strategic planning for future naval operations.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various unit awards.
