Captain Jim Morrow
Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Michigan (SSGN 727)
CAPT Morrow is a native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University in 1995. He also holds Master’s Degrees from Old Dominion University and the United States Naval War College. CAPT Morrow was commissioned in April, 1999 through the Nuclear Power Officer Commissioning Program following completion of Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
CAPT Morrow’s operational assignments include Division Officer onboard USS MAINE (SSBN 741) (GOLD) where he completed five strategic deterrent patrols, split-tour Division Officer onboard PCU TEXAS (SSN 775), Department Head tour as Navigator and Operations Officer onboard USS SANTA FE (SSN 763) where he completed an inter-fleet transfer and a Western Pacific Deployment, and Executive Officer onboard USS NORTH CAROLINA (SSN 777) where he completed a Western Pacific Deployment. He commanded USS NEW MEXICO (SSN 779) through an Extended Docking Selected Restricted Availability and East Coast operations from March 2018 to July 2020.
CAPT Morrow’s shore tours include Joint Professional Military Education as a resident at the United States Naval War College, Operations Officer at Submarine Squadron THREE, Fleet Exercise Analysis Department Head and Executive Officer at the Undersea Warfighting Development Center Tactical Analysis Group, Deputy Commander at Submarine Squadron FOUR, Combat Readiness Evaluation Team Senior Member at SUBLANT and Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board Senior Member at United States Fleet Forces Command.
CAPT Morrow is privileged to have been part of many outstanding operational teams, including two that earned Battle Efficiency “E” Awards. He is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various other unit and personal awards.
