Captain Jason Geddes
Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Michigan (SSGN 727)
Captain Geddes grew up in Indianapolis, IN and enlisted in the Navy as a Disbursing Clerk in 1989 and then transitioned to a Nuclear Electronics Technician one year later. He was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program while serving as a Reactor Operator Staff Instructor at prototype in Charleston, SC and attended North Carolina State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1997 and commissioned at Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. He has also earned a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and Master’s degree in National Security & Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
His tours at sea have been on board USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730), USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757), USS MEMPHIS (SSN 691), USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739), and USS COLORADO (SSN 788). These assignments resulted in deployments to the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Northern and Southern Atlantic Oceans, Arctic Ocean and six Pacific Ocean strategic deterrent patrols. He was named the Squadron Seventeen Junior Officer of the Year for 2001.
He commanded the USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739) from October 2014 to August 2018, completing an Engineered Refueling Overhaul, Demonstration and Shakedown Operations to include launching two Trident D-5 test missiles and the ship’s first strategic deterrent patrol in over four years.
He commanded the USS COLORADO (SSN 788) from May 2019 to March 2020 and took the ship on its maiden deployment following commissioning, a six-month European Command deployment, completing multiple missions vital to national security.
His assignments ashore include Instructor and Midshipman Advisor for Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at North Carolina State University, Instructor and Navigator for Naval Submarine School, Section Head for Submarine Tactical Systems Modernization on the staff of the Director for Undersea Warfare, Senior Deputy at Submarine Squadron Four and COMSUBLANT Shipyard Representative at Electric Boat.
