Cmdr. Rowdy Garcia

Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Maine (SSBN 741)

Commander Rowdy Garcia was born in Mesa, Arizona and grew up in Houston, Texas. He was commissioned in 2004 by the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering. He also earned a Master of Science Degree in Nuclear Engineering in 2010 from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Commander Garcia’s sea duty assignments include Division Officer onboard USS NORFOLK (SSN 714) where he completed a CENTCOM deployment; Navigator/Operations Officer onboard USS SEAWOLF (SSN 21) where he completed two deployments to EUCOM and surfaced twice at the North Pole; and Executive Officer onboard USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) completing two Strategic Deterrent Patrols.

Commander Garcia’s shore assignments include Mechanical Engineering Instructor at USNA in Annapolis, MD; Operations Officer for Commander, Submarine Squadron Eleven in San Diego, CA; and Operations Research Analyst for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Cost Assessment & Program Evaluation in the Pentagon.

Commander Garcia has earned qualification as a Navy Diver and is authorized to wear the Deep Submergence Insignia. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
