Cmdr. Scott Turner
Commanding Officer, USS Key West
Commander Turner hails from Oak Ridge, North Carolina. He enrolled as an undergraduate at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and joined the university’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps battalion. He earned dual Bachelor of the Arts degrees in Physics and History, and received his commission in 2004.
His sea tours include assignments as a junior officer on USS WEST VIRGINIA (BLUE) (SSBN 736) for five strategic deterrent patrols, as Navigator & Operations Officer on USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701) for two Western Pacific deployments, and as Executive Officer on USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724) and USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717) for an Eastern Pacific Deployment, RIMPAC 2018 harpoon and ADCAP sink-ex, garnering the 2019 Submarine Squadron SEVEN Battle Efficiency “E” award.
His shore tours include assignments as Personnel Programs and Career Development Assistant at COMSUBLANT, as Squadron Operations Officer at Submarine Development Squadron FIVE, as USW/IUSS Requirements Officer at COMPACFLT, and as Deputy Commander for Readiness at Submarine Squadron ONE. While ashore, he earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016.
