Commanding Officer, USS Hawaii (SSN 776)

Commander Daniel Jones received his commission from NROTC at Purdue University in 2005 graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and in 2013, as part of the Secretary of the Navy’s first cohort, he received an MBA in Financial Management specializing in Energy from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

At sea, after completing the nuclear power and submarine training pipelines, he reported to USS Chicago (SSN 721) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii serving in multiple division officer roles and completing two Western Pacific deployments. As Engineer Officer onboard USS Houston (SSN 713) stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii he completed a Western Pacific deployment and the final change of homeport to Bremerton, WA for decommissioning. Later he served as Executive Officer onboard USS Kentucky (Gold)(SSBN 737) in Bangor, Washington completing three strategic deterrent patrols, and receiving the 2019 Submarine Squadron SEVENTEEN Battle “E” and Strategic “S” awards.

Ashore, he served as a Submarine Watch Officer on the staff of Commander Task Force SIX NINE and as Assistant Operations Officer and Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron SIX ZERO/TASK FORCE SIX FIVE in Naples, Italy. During his tour, he deployed with the Sea Combat Commander for Joint Forces Component Commander, Joint Forces Maritime Component Command Odyssey Dawn. Other shore assignment includes as Engineer and Material Officer on the staff of Commander Submarine Development Squadron FIVE in Bangor, Washington.
