CDR Terry Turner II
Commanding Officer, Gold Crew, USS Alabama
Commander Turner, a native of Dalhart, Texas, enlisted as a Gunner’s Mate in 1998. After receiving his Seabee Combat Warfare Designation with NMCB-40, he was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy (USNA). He graduated from the USNA in May 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. In December 2013, he completed a Masters of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
His operational tours include Junior Officer USS HELENA (SSN 725), Strategic Weapons Officer USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740) (BLUE), and Executive Officer USS TENNESSEE (SSBN 734) (GOLD). He completed two SSN deployments to various locations including the Eastern and Western Pacific. He also completed seven strategic deterrent patrols in the Atlantic. His shore assignments include Nuclear Officer Recruiter at NRD Houston, Strategic Weapons Officer at Submarine Squadron 20, and Branch Chief Emergency Action Procedures at U.S. Strategic Command.
Commander Turner is entitled to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. He has been privileged to serve on units that have been recognized with the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy and Meritorious Unit Commendations.
