Cmdr. Jeff Yackeren

Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Alabama

Commander Jeff Yackeren is a native of Darien, New York.  In 1991, he enlisted in the Navy after high school, prior to pursuing a commissioning program.  He graduated from the University of Utah in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and earned his master’s degree in National and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2010.

 

His career as a nuclear submarine warfare officer includes assignments aboard USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719) in Groton, CT, as a division officer, where he contributed to two CENTCOM deployments supporting strikes in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM; USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757) in Groton, CT, as the Combat Systems Officer, where he participated in two CENTCOM deployments and then USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736)(BLUE) in Norfolk, VA, and Kings Bay, GA, as the Executive Officer in support of her refueling overhaul and return to strategic operations.

 

Ashore, he has served as a tactical development officer on the staff of Commander, Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE; Submarine Operations Officer for NATO’s COMSUBSOUTH in Naples, Italy, and as Submarine Operations Officer on the staff of COMSUBPAC in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.


His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and various unit awards.
