CDR Justin Hoff
Commanding Officer, USS San Juan (SSN 751)
Commander Justin Hoff is a native of Columbus, Ohio. He is a 2003 graduate of Norwich University (Military College of Vermont) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, receiving his commission via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.
He reported onboard USS Helena (SSN-725), holding multiple Division Officer positions, performing operations and training in San Diego locals. He conducted a six month WESTPAC deployment and three month SOUTHCOM deployment.
Commander Hoff reported to Commander Submarine Group Seven (CTF-54 / CTF-74), in Yokosuka, Japan. He served as Submarine Watch Officer, holding expanded duties as Battle Watch Captain as events in the area intensified.
Commander Hoff reported as the Combat Systems Officer (WEPS) on USS Bremerton (SSN-698), performing operations and training in Hawaiian and San Diego locals. Additionally, he completed a seven month split CENTCOM / WESTPAC deployment and a six month WESTPAC deployment.
Following on, at the United States Naval War College, he was a Gravely Naval Research Group member, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. Upon graduation, he reported to Commander Submarine Forces serving as Aide de Camp for VADM Michael Connor and VADM Joseph Tofalo.
Commander Hoff served as the Executive Officer onboard the USS Olympia (SSN-717), conducting operations and training in the Hawaiian locals, completing one six month WESTPAC deployment.
Commander Hoff served a Joint Tour at the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), as a China Planner and held the role of lead for the China Campaign Team; providing information, assessments and recommendations to the command with regards to all things China.
Commander Hoff served as Deputy for Undersea Warfare Division at Operational Test and Evaluation Force where he was recognized with the Department of the Navy Test Team Award for his involvement on the MK 48 Heavyweight Torpedo Test Team.
Commander Hoff served as Deputy for Warfighting at Submarine Squadron SEVEN. During his tour at Squadron SEVEN, he completed a six month Individual Augmentee deployment to Taiwan, advising and assisting with Joint Planning and Maritime Operations, during which Commander Hoff received a token of recognition for his contributions, the Army HQ Service Badge from the Republic of China Army.
Commander Hoff has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
