CDR Michael Kessler
Commanding Officer, USS Louisiana (SSBN 743)(Blue)
CDR Michael Kessler, a native of Hauppauge, NY, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004 with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. He earned a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies with Highest Distinction from the U.S. Naval War College.
At sea, CDR Kessler served as a division officer on USS Jefferson City (SSN 759), as engineer officer on USS Michigan (SSGN 727)(Blue), and as executive officer on USS Nevada (SSBN 733)(Gold). He completed several Western Pacific deployments, four strategic deterrent patrols, and multiple maintenance and repair periods.
CDR Kessler served on the staffs of the president of the Naval War College, the Naval Inspector General, and the Director, Navy Staff in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV). In 2016, he completed the Netherlands Submarine Command Course. CDR Kessler most recently served on the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller) as a Congressional Liaison to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees.
CDR Kessler served at sea with outstanding teams that earned the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Omaha Trophy, and multiple Battle Efficiency ‘E’ awards.
