Commanding Officer, Gold Crew, USS Henry M. Jackson

Commander Stewart is a native of Foristell, Missouri. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Kansas where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering and received his commission via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.

After completion of initial Submarine Officer training, he reported onboard USS FLORIDA (SSGN 728) (BLUE) in September of 2007. While onboard FLORIDA, he qualified Submarines in November of 2008, and completed three deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His various positions held onboard included: Quality Assurance Officer, Damage Control Assistant, and Assistant Engineer.

Following his tour onboard FLORIDA, Commander Stewart reported to the U.S. Naval Academy as a part of the Lead Cohort 14, where he earned his master’s degree in leadership education and development from the University of Maryland the spring of 2011. Following graduate education, he served as the U.S. Naval Academy 11th Company Officer for two years.

Commander Stewart served in the Pacific as Engineer Officer on USS ALABAMA (SSBN 731)(BLUE), completing four strategic deterrence patrols. Following ALABAMA, Commander Stewart served as the Aide to Commander Submarine Forces in Norfolk, VA. Commander Stewart is a 2018 graduate of the Submarine Command Course and served onboard USS NEW HAMPSHIRE as the Executive Officer, completing one deployment to the EUCOM Theater. He also served ashore as the SSBN Capabilities Branch Chief, J871, at US Strategic Command.

Commander Stewart currently serves as Commanding Officer of USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730) (GOLD). His awards and distinctions include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Award (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit awards.
