CDR Robert Trepeta
A native of Nassau County New York, Commander Trepeta was commissioned through the NROTC Scholarship Program at the State University of New York Maritime College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation. He earned Master of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University in 1999, and in addition holds a current USCG Merchant Marine License as Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage, Oceans.
Commander Trepeta’s initial sea assignment was aboard USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG-58) as Gunnery Officer and Electrical Officer where he earned qualification in Surface Warfare. He next served aboard the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron Twenty Eight as Schedules and Surface Operations Officer. Following completion of Department Head School in 2000 he was assigned to USS NICHOLSON (DD-982) as Combat Systems Officer where he qualified as a Tactical Action Officer (TAO) and Engineering Officer of the Watch. He next served as Operations Officer aboard USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC/JCC-20) and during this tour the ship completed a noteworthy ten-month CENTCOM deployment as the Afloat Headquarters for Commander, Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. Commander Trepeta then served as Assistant Combat Direction Center Officer aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73), again qualifying as TAO. He has completed five operational deployments, including a UNITAS deployment circumnavigating South America and participation in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
In 2006 Commander Trepeta completed an Individual Augmentation assignment to CENTCOM Headquarters, serving in the J3 Plans Directorate.
Ashore he has served as Assistant Officer in Charge, Operations Specialist “A” School, and as ASW Department Head and lead instructor at the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Learning Site, Norfolk. While at CSCS, Commander Trepeta was among the first group of Officers selected for the Surface Warfare Specialty Career Path (ASW Specialty) in 2005. He next served as Undersea Warfare Director at Surface Warfare Development Group (SWDG) followed by assignments as Assistant Chief of Staff at the Atlantic Theater Anti-Submarine Warfare Commander, CTF 84 (TASWC) and Executive Officer of NOPF Dam Neck. He assumed Command of NOPF Dam Neck in May 2015.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal (4), Joint Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (4) and various other personal achievement, service awards and ribbons.
