CDR Robert Rose

CDR Gray, a native of Nampa, Idaho, graduated from the University of Idaho in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He accepted his commission from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in September 2002. CDR Gray reported aboard USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735) BLUE in April 2004 where he served as the Damage Control Assistant and the Tactical Systems Officer. PENNSYLVANIA completed four strategic deterrent patrols and received the Battle Efficiency "E" award two consecutive years.

He reported to Commander, Submarine Development Squadron FIVE in February 2007 as the Assistant Operations Officer and Communications Officer. While aboard, the Squadron executed the inter-fleet transfer of the SEAWOLF class of submarines to the PACNORWEST and received the Meritorious Unit Citation.

Following completion of advanced submarine training in October 2009, he was assigned to USS SEAWOLF (SSN 21) where he served as the Engineer Officer while completing a 31-month Depot Modernization Period, sea trials, INSURV and Submarine Command Course operations.

In November 2012, he reported to the Chief of Naval Operations, serving as an Action Officer on the CNO’s staff and as an Action Officer for the Director, Undersea Warfare (N97) specializing in unmanned systems and future payloads.

CDR Gray completed the Submarine Command Course in March 2015 and assumed duties as the Executive Officer on USS TEXAS (SSN 775) in April 2015. While aboard, his team earned the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy award, the Captain Edward F. Ney award, and the Pacific Fleet Retention excellence award.

He reported to Commander, Naval Special Warfare Group THREE in January 2017 as the Chief Staff Officer. While aboard, the Group established a new maneuver element, incorporated two state of the art platforms, and established the submarine-special operations forces working group.

CDR Gray completed the Submarine Command Course in August 2019 and is currently assigned duties as the Commanding Officer of USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 725) Blue Crew as of December 2019.
