CDR Michael Humara

Commanding Officer, USS Missouri (SSN 780)
Commander Michael J Humara grew up in both Torrance, CA and Olathe, KS, and in 2002 he enlisted in the Naval Service while residing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated in 2007 from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
From 2008 to 2011, CDR Humara served as a Division Officer onboard USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724) in Pearl Harbor, HI. During his time onboard the boat completed a change of homeport from Portsmouth, NH to Pearl Harbor and a Western Pacific deployment.
He served as Engineer on board USS Louisiana (SSBN 743) (Gold) in Bangor, WA from 2014 to 2017. During this period on Louisiana, he led several teams in four strategic deterrent patrols.
As Executive Officer on board USS Boise (SSN 764) in Newport News, VA from 2020 to 2022, BOISE continued her Engineered Overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding. During this time CDR Humara also deployed onboard USS Albany to the European Command theatre in 2021.
Ashore, CDR Humara served as a NROTC Officer Instructor at the University of Southern California, the Resource and Assessments/Knowledge Management Officer for Commander Submarine Forces Pacific, and as the Special Assistant for Enlisted Personnel, Policy and Training at Naval Reactors. He also is a graduate of the MIT-WHOI Joint program.
