CDR Joslyn Veney

Commanding Officer, USS Louisiana (SSBN 743)(Gold)

Commander Veney is a native of Odenton, MD, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering.

CDR Veney qualified submarines and served as a junior officer on both USS BREMERTON (SSN 698) and USS COLUMBIA (SSN 771), where he completed an Engineered Refueling Overhaul (ERO) and two Western Pacific (WESTPAC) deployments. During his department head tour, he served as the Navigation and Operations Officer on USS ALBUQUERQUE (SSN 706), completing a third WESTPAC. As an executive officer on USS KENTUCKY (BLUE)(SSBN 737) and USS NEBRASKA (GOLD)(SSBN 739), he completed a Demonstration and Shakedown Operation (DASO) and two strategic deterrent patrols.

Ashore, CDR Veney served as a senior Chemistry, Material and Radiological Controls Instructor at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team as a Department Head and Tactical Evaluator, and most recently as the Executive Officer for Strategic Systems Program Operations, Evaluation and Training Branch.

CDR Veney’s personal decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He has been privileged to serve on commands that have been awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Battle Efficiency "E" award.
