Commander Kenneth Roman
Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Kentucky
Commander Roman, a native of Stafford, V.A., graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After receiving the Pownall Scholarship from the United States Naval Academy, he attended the University of Cambridge in England where he earned a Master of Philosophy in Engineering. He also holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
Roman qualified submarines and served as a junior officer on USS La Jolla (SSN 701) where he completed two deployments. During his department head tour, he served as engineer officer on USS Alabama (SSBN 731) where he completed a Demonstration and Shakedown Operation (DASO) and four strategic deterrent patrols. Most recently, he served as executive officer on USS Cheyenne (SSN 773) in Pearl Harbor, H.I.
Ashore, Roman served as the flag aide to the Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and served as the Director of Submarine and Nuclear Accessions at Navy Recruiting Command.
Roman’s personal decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, 2005 Sea Service Award from the Honolulu Navy League, and David Lloyd Award for Excellence. He has been privileged to serve on commands that have been awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Battle Efficiency "E" awards.
