CDR Scott J. McGinnis
Commanding Officer, USS Houston (SSN 713)
From Richmond, Virginia, Commander McGinnis was commissioned on May 23, 1997 from the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Japanese. He completed Naval Nuclear Power training in 1998 and received a Masters of Engineering in Astronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate school in 2004.
Commander McGinnis’s sea tours include serving as Electrical Assistant in USS William H. Bates (SSN-680), Assistant Weapons Officer in USS SEAWOLF (SSN-21), Strategic Weapons Officer in USS NEVADA (SSBN-733)(Gold), and Executive Officer in USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN-711). He has deployed to the Western Pacific, Northern Atlantic, and Mediterranean Sea and has completed four strategic deterrent patrols.
Ashore, Commander McGinnis served as a flag aide to VADM Barry McCullough, OPNAV N8; as a Defense Fellow to Senators LeMieux (FL) and Martinez (FL) and as Deputy Chief of Staff for Theater Anti-Submarine Warfare and Deputy Operations Officer for Commander, Submarine Group SEVEN in Yokosuka, Japan.
Commander McGinnis is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement medals.
