Commander Michael Fasano

Executive Officer

Commander Michael R. Fasano was born in East Patchogue, NY and enlisted in the Navy in February 1991 as a Submarine Electronics Technician. In 2002 he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.

In January 2005, Commander Fasano was commissioned as a Submarine Electronics Limited Duty Officer. His first assignment was onboard USS FRANK CABLE (AS-40) as the Electrical Officer where he completed his qualifications as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW).

In December 2006, he reported to CSDS-5 Detachment Undersea & Development (UR&D), which embarks onboard USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN-23). While onboard JIMMY CARTER, he made the first three deployments in support of CNO Priority One objectives and became the first LDO onboard to earn gold dolphins.

In November 2009, he transferred to CSDS-5 Detachment Sierra as the Assistant Officer in Charge and spent 1-year onboard USS MONTPELIER (SSN-765) conducting deployment workups and operations.

In September 2011, he transferred to Naval Base Kitsap staff where he served as the Operations Officer, Port Operations Officer, and the Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Officer. Additionally, he was hand selected to establish and lead the dedicated Harbor Protection Unit (HPU) onboard NBK-Bremerton.

In March 2014, he transferred to the Naval Research Laboratory (Sea Component) at Port Hueneme, CA where he served as the Ocean Systems Department Head and made one deployment in support of CNO Priority One objectives.

In November 2014, he was hand selected to serve as the Afloat Officer in Charge (OIC) of CSDS-5 Detachment Undersea & Development (UR&D). While embarked on USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN-23), he made three deployments in support of CNO Priority One objectives.

In July 2018, he transferred to the Research and Development and Support Activity (RDSA) in Arlington, VA where he served as a Project Officer in support of classified N2/N6 initiatives.

In April 2020, he relieved as Officer in Charge/Installation Commander, Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC), Andros Island, Bahamas. During his tour, he managed a mix of over 500 Military and civilian personal and continued AUTEC’s mission as the premier air, surface, and submerged test and evaluation range.

Commander Fasano holds a BS in Management from the University of Phoenix and a double Masters in Business & Administration (MBA) and Project Management (MPM) from Devry’s Keller Graduate School of Management. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). In his spare time, he enjoys flying. He holds an FAA Commercial single land and sea rating as well as a Commercial multi-engine rating. He is also a certificated single engine, multi-engine, and instrument flight instructor.

CDR Fasano is authorized to wear the Surface Warfare Officer pin, Gold Submarine Dolphins, the Information Warfare Officer pin, and the Gold Deep Submergence Insignia. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (7 awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8 Awards), the Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) and various other campaign and unit awards.
