Captain Brian C. Taddiken
Captain Brian Taddiken, originally from Tacoma, WA, graduated with Merit from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996 with a bachelor of science in systems engineering. He earned a master's in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College, a master's in engineering management from Old Dominion University, a Diploma de Mestre em Ciências Navais from the Brazilian Naval War College, and a master's in business administration from the Federal University of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro.
Captain Taddiken's first sea tour was on USS BILLFISH (SSN 676) where, following an arctic deployment, he decommissioned the ship. He transferred to USS JEFFERSON CITY (SSN 759), served in several division officer billets, and deployed to the western pacific. He conducted two 5th Fleet deployments while serving as Weapons Officer and Navigator/Operations Officer on USS ALBUQUERQUE (SSN 706). While stationed in Guam, he served as Executive Officer on USS BUFFALO (SSN 715) and completed a Guam mission cycle. His last sea duty assignment was as Commanding Officer of USS CONNECTICUT (SSN-22), America’s fastest and most lethal submarine. CONNECTICUT deployed just two weeks after completing an especially arduous and challenging 54-month shipyard availability.
His staff assignments include duty in Tampa, Florida on the staff of the Commander in Chief, Central Command and in Lisbon, Portugal on the staff of the Commander, Regional Headquarters South Atlantic for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He also served as the Director for Submarine Warfare and Littoral Combat Systems for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, & Acquisition) and as the Deputy Commander for Readiness on the staffs of Commanders, Submarine Squadron ONE and SEVEN. He most recently served as the Senior Member of the Commander, Submarine Force Pacific Combat Readiness Evaluation Team.
Captain Taddiken's awards include multiple Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation, Joint Achievement, and Navy Achievement medals, plus various campaign and service awards. He is most proud the numerous unit awards, including four Battle Efficiency "E" awards for operational excellence, earned by the crews of JEFFERSON CITY, ALBUQUERQUE, BUFFALO, and CONNECTICUT.
