CMDCM(SS) Jeffrey Barnes
Command Master Chief
Master Chief Barnes hails from Zaleski, Ohio and is a 1995 graduate of Vinton County Consolidated High School. Master Chief Barnes reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in May 1996. He completed Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Fire Control Technician “A” School in Groton, Connecticut and defensive weapons system Mk 118 “C” school in Kings Bay, Ga.
Master Chief Barnes reported to the USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) (BLUE) in August 1998 homeported in Kings Bay, Georgia. During his first sea tour he earned his Dolphins and completed 9 strategic deterrent patrols.
He reported to the USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740) (GOLD) in March 2003 also homeported in Kings Bay, Georgia. During his second sea tour he completed 7 strategic deterrent patrols and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
In April 2008, he reported to the USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738) (GOLD) as the Fire Control and Torpedo Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and completed 5 strategic deterrent patrols. In December 2013, he reported to the USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) (GOLD) in Kings Bay, Georgia as the Fire Control and Torpedo Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and completed 6 strategic deterrent patrols.
In December 2017, he reported to USS NEVADA (SSBN 733 Gold) as the Chief of the Boat (COB). During his COB tour, Nevada earned the 2018 Commander, Submarine Squadron 17 Battle "E", the 2018 USSTRATCOM Omaha trophy and the 2020 Retention Excellence awards. While stationed onboard the NEVADA he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer and completed 3 strategic deterrent patrols.
From July 2010 until December 2013, Master Chief Barnes served as the Fire Control assistant and Torpedoman on the staff of Commander Submarine Squadron 20 in Kings Bay, Georgia. While stationed at Squadron 20 he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Master Chief Barnes is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 200 and COB/CMC class 178.
Master Chief Barnes is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (7 awards), Good Conduct Medal (6 awards), and various other service and campaign awards.
