
CDR Ryan Grundt
Commanding Officer, Gold Crew, USS Alabama
CDR Grundt was born in Yuma, AZ. He grew up in Huntsville, AL where he enlisted in the Navy in 1995 as a nuclear-trained Electrician’s Mate. He was selected for the Seaman to Admiral 21 program where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering for Oregon State University. Upon receiving his commission in June of 2007, he attended Naval Nuclear Power School and Prototype in Goose Creek, and Submarine Officer Basic Course in (SOBC) in Groton, CT.
His sea duty assignments include serving as Electrical Division Leading Petty Officer aboard USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739)(GOLD), Division Officer aboard USS CHARLOTTE (SSN 766), as the Navigator and Operations Officer on USS ALABAMA (SSBN 731) (GOLD), and Executive Officer on USS ALASKA (SSBN 732)(BLUE).
Ashore, he was as an instructor at Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC, Shift Engineer at Nuclear Power Training Unit Charleston where he also completed a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Following his department head tour, he served as the Operations Officer on the COMSUBRON TWO ZERO staff. Most recently he served as the Director of Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC.
