Lieutenant Commander Richard Coates
Executive Officer
Lieutenant Commander Richard Coates, a native of Phoenix, Arizona enlisted in the Navy in 1995 and attended the Basic and Advanced Electronics/Computer Field Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. He advanced to Fire Controlman First Class Petty Officer in 2001 and commissioned as a Surface Electronics Limited Duty Officer in 2008.
Lieutenant Commander Coates’ Operational tours include USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52), USS ANTIETAM (CG 54), USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57), USS STOCKDALE (DDG 106), USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), USS BOXER (LHD 4), and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in September 2021, where he served as the Combat Systems Maintenance Officer (CSMO).
Ashore tours include Center for Naval Reserve Center Chicago and Afloat Training Group (ATG) San Diego. He qualified as AEGIS TAO, OOD, AAW, and additional fleet watch officer qualifications. He is designated as a Surface Warfare Officer and has an A.A.S. Degree in Technical Studies from Excelsior University. Military awards include the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy-Marine Corp Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit awards and campaign medals.
