JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM, Hawaii - Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) released the recipients of the 2016 Naval Submarine League Aloha Chapter annual Warfighting Awards on April 7.
The awards recognize the warfighting skills of Pearl Harbor submariners serving in a variety of ranks and billets.
“I think the recipients all share strong proven performance in their sea going billets. They have all done well in their primary assignments and contributed to the mission of their ships in other ways,” said Capt. Jerry Hofwolt (Ret.), president of the Aloha Chapter of the Naval Submarine League.
“We recognize that selecting and recognizing powerful leaders is part of creating a strong nucleus of leadership within the Submarine Force,” said Hofwolt.
This year’s recipient of the Adm. Bernard Clarey Award for outstanding service of a senior officer was Cmdr. Wesley P. Bringham, commanding officer aboard the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Bremerton (SSN 698).
Lt. Travis M. Nicks, assistant operations officer aboard the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Santa Fe (SSN 772), received the Capt. Charles Rush Award for outstanding service of a junior officer.
Senior Chief Machinist Mate Samuel E. England, Auxiliary Division Leading Chief Petty Officer aboard USS Charlotte (SSN 766) was awarded the EMC(SS) John Rendernick Award for outstanding service of a senior enlisted Sailor.
Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jared R. Stuttle, Independent Duty Corpsman aboard USS Santa Fe (SSN 763) received the TM2 (SS) Henry Breault Award for outstanding service of a junior enlisted Sailor.
The Warfighting Awards are released annually in cooperation between the Aloha Chapter of the Naval Submarine League and COMSUBPAC. Candidates are nominated by their Commanding officers or squadron commodores.
