CDR Kirby Hallas

CDR Kirby Hallas is currently serving as the Executive Officer onboard Frank Cable (AS 40) providing maintenance to the Pacific Fleet.

CDR Hallas enlisted in the Navy as a Sonar Technician November 1987. Went to Great Lakes for Basic Training and Groton for Submarine School. Completed Sonar “A” school, Space Maintenance and BQR-21 Operator schools in San Diego. CDR Hallas was stationed on USS Francis Scott Key 1988-1992, USS Florida 1992-1994 and USS Nebraska 1995-1998 as a Sonar Supervisor and Maintenance technician. Transferred to Trident Training Facility Kings Bay as a BQQ-5 Instructor. He qualified 3MC and made Chief 1999, only to fleet up as the sonar “C” school and team training chief. He received a commission on January 2001.

Upon receiving a commission, he transferred to USS Frank Cable as the R-4 Division Officer until 2003. He was managing the repair of three homeported submarines and all deployed submarines in the CTF 74/Group 7 AOR. He transferred to Trident Training Facility Kings Bay as the radio, fire control, LAN and general training division officer.

January 2006 to August 2008, CDR Hallas was the Force EMO and Non-Nuclear Propulsion Electronic Equipment (NPES) Modernization Officer for Commander Submarine Forces. He solidified our current modernization process including the development of a lasting instruction setting the standard for SURFOR and AIRFOR programs.

He transferred to Norfolk Naval Shipyard during the MARMC conversion to Sept 2011. As the PMA, he developed and controlled all “I” level maintenance for the seven homeported boats. Executed the USS Norfolk DMP and modernization availability as the Deputy Project Superintendent, which was the only project to complete 10 days early that year.

From Sept 2011 to June 2014 he was assigned to SUBGRU 10 as the EMO and Security Manager. He was instrumental in getting the SSBN community on the SWFTS modernization highway by SUBFOR.

July 2014 to March 2017 he led a group of instructors as the OIC for Trident Training Facility Learning Site Whidbey Island. He implemented new courses and trainers to support US, Canadian and British Sailors.

CDR Kirby Hallas relieved as NSW LOGSU-3 Executive Officer in Pearl City Peninsula on April 2017. LOGSU-3 supported SDVT-1, TRADET, ATC, and Group 3. They are the only NSW Fleet Maintenance Activity supporting DDS and SDV repair providing medical, logistical, armory, range, air loft, communication, LAN, security, training support.
