CDR Mike Dolbec
Commanding Officer, USS Texas (SSN 775)
CDR Dolbec, a native of Manchester, NH, was commissioned in 2000 from Officer Candidate School after earning a bachelor’s degree in Ocean Sciences from Maine Maritime Academy.
His sea tours began onboard USS SEAWOLF (SSN-21) from 2002 to 2005 where he completed a North Atlantic deployment. From 2007 to 2011, he served as the Navigation and Operations Officer onboard USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN-757), where he completed two deployments to the Arabian Gulf and a theatre ASW surge deployment. From 2013 to 2015, he served as the Executive Officer onboard USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN-711), where he completed a Western Pacific deployment.
His ashore assignments include the Undersea Warfare Program at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. There he developed software applying vision-based velocity detection to forward-looking SONAR, resulting in a new method of navigation for autonomous undersea vehicles that has since been applied to all SSN’s. He earned a master’s degree in Engineering Science and was awarded the National Defense Industrial Association Rear Admiral Jack Jarabak Medal for advancement in undersea warfare. He was also selected to attend the Army War College in Carlisle, PA, where he earned a master’s degree in Strategic Studies.
Additionally, he was assigned as the submarine tactics officer at the United Kingdom Maritime Warfare Centre from 2011 to 2013. There he designed a tactics development program utilizing commercial unmanned submarines, creating new capabilities that were exercised in complex fleet training events. While serving with the Royal Navy he completed a North Atlantic deployment assigned to the TRAFALGAR Class SSN, HMS TIRELESS.
CDR Dolbec is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards). However, he is most proud of the two Meritorious Unit Commendations and four Battle Efficiency “E” awards earned while serving with outstanding teams.
