Master Chief Michael Wangen II

Command Master Chief

Master Chief Wangen is a native of Red Wing, MN and a graduate of Red Wing High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy 24 July 2000 and attended Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. He completed Basic Enlisted Submarine School and STS “A” School in 2001.

His at-sea assignments include USS HELENA (SSN 725), USS JEFFERSON CITY (SSN 759), and the USS SANTA FE (SSN 763).

Master Chief Wangen’s shore tours include Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, Commander Submarine Squadron 11, where he qualified into the Chief of the Boat (COB) program.

His COB tour was aboard USS TOPEKA (SSN 754) forward deployed in Apra Harbor, Guam from May 2017 through December 2019. During his COB tour he completed three successful deployments in the 7th Fleet Area of Operations.

His personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (six awards) and various individual and unit awards.
