LCDR Sean Flanagan
NOPFDN Executive Officer
Lieutenant Commander Flanagan enlisted in the Navy in 1997 at his local recruiting station in Waycross, Georgia. Following basic training and initial training as a nuclear Electrician’s Mate, he was assigned to the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Charleston, South Carolina as a staff instructor.
In 2000, he was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program and attended North Carolina State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. After receiving his commission in May 2003, he returned to Charleston to complete his nuclear field officer training.
Following nuclear training, he reported to the USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) in Bangor, Washington where he served as the Reactor Controls Assistant and Quality Assurance Officer during five strategic deterrent patrols. In 2007, he transferred to shore duty in Lincoln, Nebraska where he served as a Naval Science Instructor at the University of Nebraska NROTC Unit.
In August 2010, he reported to the USS TUCSON (SSN 770) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to serve as the Engineer Officer. While onboard the TUSCON, he completed one Western Pacific Deployment, various fleet exercises and an extended dry-docking period. After completing his department head tour, he reported to Washington, DC to serve as a program manager for the Director of Undersea Warfare (N97). In May 2015, he assumed the duties of Executive Officer of Naval Ocean Processing Facility Dam Neck, Virginia.
Commander Flanagan’s personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), and various campaign, service, and unit awards.
