CDR Timothy J. Poe

Commander Poe was born in Patuxent River Maryland, son of a Naval Aviator.  He enlisted in the Navy in 1989 and was commissioned via the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program, after graduating from Auburn University in 1994 with a BS in Materials Engineering.

Commander Poe qualified submarines on USS HAMPTON (SSN 767), served as Submarine Liaison Officer on the staff of DESTROYER SQUADRON EIGHTEN, Navigator on USS NEWPORT NEWS (SSN 750), and Executive Officer on USS MEMPHIS (SSN 691). During his sea tours, these ships completed six deployments, including operations in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf.  This also included combat operations during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

Ashore, CDR Poe served as C3I Engineer in the VIRGINIA CLASS Program Office, Executive Assistant to Program Executive Officer for Submarines, Operations Officer at Submarine Squadron Eight, and Special Operations Officer at Commander Task Force 74/54.

Commander Poe is a graduate of Norwegian “Perisher” Submarine Command Course and the Air Force Command and Staff College.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards) and the Navy Commendation Medal (seven awards).  He holds a Masters Degree in Engineering Management from Catholic University and a Masters Degree in Military Operational Art and Science from Air University.
