Commander Vance Scott

Commanding Officer, Blue Crew, USS Nebraska

CDR Vance D. Scott, a native of Baltimore, MD, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He received his Master's degrees in: Leadership from the University of Maryland; National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. He earned a Certificate of Legislative Studies from the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

His sea tours include serving as a division officer on USS Albany (SSN 753); as Navigator and Operations Officer on USS West Virginia (SSBN 736)(Gold) and as Executive Officer on USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730)(Gold).

For shore duty assignments, CDR Scott served as the 6th and 10th Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy. He served as the Force Strategic Weapons Officer and subsequently Force Strategic Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, Task Force ONE THREE FOUR. During this tour, CDR Scott concurrently served on the Commander Submarine Force Pacific, Tactical Readiness Evaluation team as a tactical and strategic Department Head. Following his XO tour, CDR Scott reported to the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) to serve as the Deputy Director of the Navy Liaison office to the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2022, CDR Scott transitioned to manage the undersea and strategic portfolios for both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. While on an extended temporary assignment to OPNAV N97, CDR Scott served as the assistant program manager for the Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) trilateral program in direct support of Submarine Rotational Forces–West.

CDR Scott's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards). He has been privileged to serve in commands that have been awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Battle Efficiency “E” awards.
