CDR John C. Witte, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, graduated from Iowa State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science. Later, he completed a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University as we as a Master of Science in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Forces Staff College.

His initial shipboard assignment was on board USS ALBUQUERQUE (SSN 706) in Groton, Connecticut. During his time on board ALBUQUERQUE, he completed an Arabian Gulf deployment with the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN Strike Group. The ship earned the COMSUBRON TWO Battle Efficiency “E” Award in 2003.

CDR Witte’s Department Head tour was on USS MICHIGAN (SSGN 727) gold crew in Bangor, Washington, where he served as the Engineer Officer. While on board the MICHIGAN, he completed two Western Pacific Deployments. The ship earned the COMSUBRON NINETEEN Engineering “E” Award in 2009.

His next sea tour was as Executive Officer (and Plank Owner) on board USS MINNESOTA (SSN 783) in Norfolk, Virginia. During his time on board, CDR Witte led the crew through initial construction, sea trials and commissioning.

His shore tours include serving as the Naval Special Warfare/Advanced SEAL Delivery System Officer at COMSUBRON ONE in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the U.S. Fleet Forces Command Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board in Norfolk, Virginia. Following his Executive Officer tour, CDR Witte attended the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, where he was a distinguished graduate. He then joined the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command’s Joint Planning Support Element, where he conducted several deployments in support of defense planning efforts, including an assignment with the Special Operations Joint Task Force in Bagram, Afghanistan.
