USS Emory S. Land Visits Sasebo

By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Michael Doan, USS Emory S. Land Public Affairs

FLEET ACTIVITIES SASEBO, Japan (Mar. 11, 2016) – The submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) arrived in Sasebo, Japan Mar. 11, for a port visit.

While in port, Emory S. Land is scheduled to provide maintenance services to afloat units.

“Emory S. Land’s repair department is excited and genuinely looks forward to working with surface ships and the ability to extend our tender services to the operational commanders,” said Chief Machinist’s Mate Christopher Smith, ship supervisor.

For many of the crew, this will be their first visit to Japan because the last time Emory S. Land visited was in 2013.

“In my 11-year career, I have always wanted to go to Japan,” said Logistics Specialist 1st Class Adam Keimig. “With all the excitement of transferring and getting to see my family, it is equal to seeing Japan.”

Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations.

Emory S. Land’s visit to Sasebo continues the U.S. Navy's ongoing commitment to theater security, cooperation and strengthening our friendship with local partner navies.
