ICEX 2016 Camp Operations Conclude Successfully; Submarine Ops Continue

160311-N-QA919-061 Arctic Circle (March 13, 2016) - Ice Camp Sargo, located in the Arctic Circle, serves as the main stage for Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2016 and will house more than 200 participants from four nations over the course of the exercise. ICEX 2016 is a five-week exercise designed to research, test, and evaluate operational capabilities in the region. ICEX 2016 allows the U.S. Navy to assess operational readiness in the Arctic, increase experience in the region, advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and develop partnerships and collaborative efforts. USS Hampton Returns Home from Deployment

SAN DIEGO (June 18, 2013) Capt. Thomas Ishee, commander Submarine Squadron 11 (lower left) talks to Cmdr. Lincoln Reifsteck, commanding officer of the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Hampton (SSN 767), as the boat prepares to depart for a scheduled six-month deployment to the western Pacific region in support of the Chief of Naval Operations' Maritime Strategy, which includes maritime security, forward presence, sea control, and power projection. Hampton was commissioned November 16, 1993 and is named after Hampton, Iowa, S.C. and Va. Displacing more than 6,900 tons, Hampton has a crew of nearly 140 Sailors and is one of six Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarines homeported in San Diego. USS Hampton Surfaces on "Top of the World"

North Polar Region (Apr. 19, 2004) - The crew of the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Hampton (SSN 767) posted a sign reading "North Pole" made by the crew after surfacing in the polar ice cap region. Hampton and the Royal Navy Trafalgar class attack submarine HMS Tireless took part in ICEX 04, a joint operational exercise beneath the polar ice cap. Both the Tireless and Hampton crews met on the ice, including scientists traveling aboard both submarines to collect data and perform experiments.
